Located on the banks of the Big Salmon River and the Little Salmon River, Riggins sits at an elevation of 1800 ft. in the largest county of Idaho, Idaho County. As one travels up any of the roads out of Riggins the elevation dramatically rises. He Devil, one of the Seven Devils mountains, located just Southwest of Riggins towers at 9393 ft. and Steamboat Summit North of McCall is about 6400 ft. The summer temperature ranges are from about 70-105 degrees and the Winter ranges are from 10-35 in the coldest part of the Winter. Riggins has four definite seasons with the longest seasons being Spring and Fall. The coldest temperatures generally do not last very long and the hottest temperatures generally do not last very long. The growing season is from April to September with killing frosts sometimes delaying until well into October. The city of Riggins usually gets very little snow and when the snow does come it usually does not stay on the ground but a few days. One can almost always see ‘dirt’. Riggins population is around 410 people which is plenty of offer companionship or seclusion. Educational opportunities for school age children are Riggins Elementary, Salmon River High School, Homeschooling and Internet classes available through the public school and privately. A wealth of talented private citizens produce opportunities for community and church plays, drama, and music performance and training. McCall has 24 hour 7 day a week on site Life Flight service to Boise. Riggins, Pinehurst, Whitebird, and New Meadows each have a volunteer Fire Department and Riggins has a volunteer dive team.
